When Mickey Rourke came back big in The Wrestler and was nominated for an Oscar he began to lash out at his biggest competition, Sean Penn in Milk. According to The Daily Beast, Rourke sent this message to a Los Angeles entertainment honcho: "Look, Sean's an old friend of mine and I didn,t buy his performance at all - thought he did an average pretend acting like he was gay." Rourke's publicist tried to defuse the situation by stating, "There is no Oscar feud between Mickey and Sean. They have known each other and been friends for a very long time. Mickey attended the New York premiere of Milk to support Sean and only has the greatest respect for him."

Penn wisely kept mum and went on to beat Rourke to the podium, ending his acceptance speech with this gracious shout-out: "Mickey Rourke rises again. And he is my brother."
