Pulp Fiction vs. Forrest Gump (1994)

Some people are still smarting about the outcome of this race. "Pulp Fiction" was the very definition of edgy - a ballsy, inventive comedy about hit men and the women and cheeseburgers they loved, as told by a young director not afraid to kill off John Travolta on the toilet. "Forrest Gump," on the other hand, was as reassuring as Oscar winners get - a re-imagination of history from the vantage point of a total idiot, where those who buck the system get AIDS and die, while those who are too sweet and simple to challenge anything go on to be successful at everything they do, as directed by the dude who made zillions on the "Back to the Future" pics. "Pulp Fiction" took home Best Original Screenplay. "Forrest Gump" walked away with Best Picture, Director, Actor and Adapted Screenplay. It still doesn't seem fair.
