In 1937, Alice Brady (above) was unable to attend the ceremony to claim her prize for Best Supporting Actress. A mysterious, unidentified man took to the stage to apparently accept the award, but instead stole it. The statuette was never recovered and the Academy later issued Brady with a replacement.
