Oscars’ biggest upsets
The Shawshank Redemption loses to Forrest Gump

There is no denying the populist appeal of the Robert Zemeckis-directed "Forrest Gump." The Tom Hanks juggernaut swept the 67th Academy Awards, winning in the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, among several others. Those wins prevented "The Shawshank Redemption" from attaining its rightful place in Oscar history. That is a biased opinion, of course, but Frank Darabont's adaptation of the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" has risen in esteem over the years, overtaking "Gump" on the American Film Institute's '100 Years... 100 Movies' list in 2007.
