The undeniably charming silent film The Artist swept the board at the Academy Awards last year, and also won Best Picture and Best Director at the Critics' Choice Awards. Leading man Jean Dujardin, who won the Best Actor Oscar, was pipped to the Critics' Choice equivalent by George Clooney for The Descendants, while awards veteran Meryl Streep, who won the Best Actress Oscar for Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady, lost out to The Help's Viola Davis.

2012's People's Choice Awards were a markedly different affair, however. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 won four awards including Favourite Movie, while Emma Stone took two prizes, including Favourite Movie Actress. Johnny Depp took home Favourite Movie Actor.
