The 1996 film Bottle Rocket was co-written with Owen Wilson and was shown at Sundance. The film was picked up but failed to launch itself internationally when it hit the box office. However, critically acclaimed director Martin Scorsese soon named Bottle Rocket as one of his favourite films which presented Anderson with his big break. Anderson then produced Rushmore which was his massive success story.
