Jason Reitman's film loosely based on a novel was screened at Sundance in January 2006 following its release the previous April. The film did relatively well at the box office but came up against critics questioning its lack of continuity. According to the Sundance festival director in 2006, the film was 'VERY Sundance' because it went on to attract controversy surrounding its plotline.
