Robert Rodriguez's debut film was a hit with audiences at the 1993 Sundance festival. The film, following a mariachi as he seeks refuge after being mistaken for a criminal, was originally only for production in Mexico but Columbia Pictures liked the film so much that they purchased rights to take it to America.
