We are not saying that Sandra Bullock is not a good actress. In fact, the Texan is a masterful comedienne, but her turn as a bull-headed mother in 2009's The Blind Side was arguably not as distinguished as Meryl Streep's light-hearted portrayal of master cook Julia Child in Julie & Julia. Bullock may very well have been the beneficiary of vote splitting, though, as the category also included acclaimed performances by Helen Mirren (The Last Station) and Carey Mulligan (An Education).
