Classic remakes not on Imtiaz Ali's wish list

Writer-director Imtiaz Ali, whose last film 'Rockstar' has been picking up honours almost at every award function, says he would never venture into remake zone.
"I always believe that if a film has already been made, I would never remake it. That film is already so complete in itself that I would never want people to make fun of me by comparing my film with the original," the 40-year-old said at the launch of Nasreen Munni Kabir's book 'The Dialogue of Devdas'.
Ali admits to be in love with the character of Devdas because of its imperfections.
Talking about some of his all-time favourite classics, he said: "From the classics that I have watched, I love 'Mother India' - I feel it is very human and it is the story of India. Of course, there is 'Mughal-E-Azam' but then it is one film that everyone talks about."
" 'Ganga Jamuna' is also good. 'Sagina Mahato' is also a very interesting story in today's parlance in a classic format," said Ali.
The filmmaker forayed into filmdom with youth-centric story 'Socha Na Tha'. The 2005 release was not a commercial success, but Ali showed his talent the way he treated the subject and the characters. His storytelling technique fetched him appreciation.
His technique didn't fetch favourable results for his debut film, but when he made Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer 'Jab We Met', he used the same style and this time it appealed to the audiences and the 2007 release turned out to be a huge box office success. His next release 'Love Aaj Kal was a hit.
