'Anjaana Anjaani': Can we rename it '2 Idiots'?
Comparisons are usually odious...pardon me for starting a review with what some of you may deem to be my favourite line! But, I guess comparisons are a natural instinct amongst us humans so, avoiding it completely can be rather difficult. So, if we were to compare director Siddharth Anand's journey across Tinsel Town thus far, one could easily disprove Charles Darwin's theory of human evolution.
His first movie ripped off from 'Nine Months' as 'Salaam Namaste' was his best and the next two 'Tara Rum Pum' and 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' made under a three-film contract with Yashraj Films, showed signs of intellectual regression that our director has completely with his latest offering. The mindless and utterly soul-less 'Anjaana Anjaani'.
The movie is a collage of events without a narrative string and far too many songs. It oscillates between a wannabe yuppie comedy to an ode to romance between a made-for-each-other couple Akash (Ranbir) and Keira (Priyanka) who meet on Brooklyn bridge in New York while trying to end their lives. But, sadly it ends up as neither, thanks to Anand's obvious indecision on its genre.
