Legendary Hollywood comedian Robin Williams passed away this week at the age of 63. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but it is being treated as a suspected suicide. Williams was open about his long-standing battle with drugs and alcohol abuse, telling the Guardian newspaper in 2010, “It’s just literally being afraid. And you think, oh, [the alcohol] will ease the fear. And it doesn’t... It’s just a general all-round arggghhh. It’s fearfulness and anxiety”.

The World Health Organization has estimated that approximately 450 million people worldwide have a mental health problem. Here are 20 public figures who, like Williams, have spoken out about dealing with anxiety, depression and other disorders.
