Born and raised in south London, Caine – adopting the stage moniker “Michael Scott” – began his acting career in 1953, in a small-town production of Wuthering Heights. Following more theatre roles and a two-year period of service in the British Army between 1952 and ‘54 – which included active duty in the Korean War – the young actor (now using the stage name Michael Caine) bagged his first film role as a private in 1956’s A Hill in Korea (pictured).
