The decade wasn’t all bad for Caine though; the actor enjoyed two of his most critically successful roles in 1983's Educating Rita (pictured) and in Hannah and her Sisters (1986). Starring alongside Julie Walters in the former, Caine played an alcoholic and disillusioned university professor challenged by a working-class pupil eager to learn, a role for which he won both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. In the Woody Allen-directed comedy drama Hannah and Her Sisters, Caine shone alongside Mia Farrow, a performance that garnered him his first Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
