Kanye West interview: Rapper on Kim Kardashian and daughter North
Kanye West has given his first interview since becoming a father, on Kris Jenner's chat show, and it showed the hot-headed star in a new light.
There's no doubt Kris would be a formidable mother-in-law if Kim and Kanye ever got married, but the rapper seemed at ease with her as he spoke about his relationship.
When asked if it was love at first sight with Kim, he said: “I was in love with her before I even got to talk to her,” and joked that he was smitten before he even knew how to pronounce her last name.
He addressed rumours that he was concerned a relationship with a reality TV star would damage his reputation. “I had people say, ‘This is going to damage your credibility as an artist or a designer. But I say, ‘I don’t care, I love this woman’.
"Or someone could say, ‘Everyone knows you don’t like the paparazzi. Why would you be with this person?’ And I say, ‘I am being with this person because I love this person and she is worth it to me’.”
Kanye even admitted to Kris that he pined for her daughter for years. “I just dreamed about being next to her. The time when I wasn’t with her, I wanted to be with her so bad I thought about taking up sports,” he joked, referring to Kim’s exes, basketball star Kris Humphries and NFL player Reggie Bush.
And he’s embracing fatherhood with gusto. “Kim's my joy and she bought my joy into the world,” he said of their daughter North. “And there's no paparazzi and no blog comment that's going to take that joy from me.”
Kanye also used the interview to debut a photo of his two-month-old. “I pray she looks like her mother when she's older,” he said.
The star admitted that Kim has brought true happiness back into his life, which he hadn’t felt since his mother died in 2007 following complications from plastic surgery.
“After I lost my mother, there were times I felt I would put my life at risk,” he admitted. “I felt like sometimes I didn't have something to live for. Now I have two really special people to live for, a whole family to live for, a whole world to live for.”
