Prince William was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runcie, in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace on August 4, 1982, six weeks after his birth. He had six godparents including former King Constantine II of Greece (his paternal cousin) and Sir Laurens van der Post. The young prince cried incessantly during the ceremony, prompting his mother, the late Princess Diana, to place her finger in his mouth in order to pacify him.
