The two classiest acceptance speeches belonged to Meryl Streep and Christopher Plummer, both of whom paid touching tribute, not to Hollywood, but to their partners. Streep thanked her husband before anyone else to avoid getting drowned out by the get-off-the-stage-now orchestra: "Everything I value most in our lives, you've given me." Plummer, meanwhile, thanked his "long-suffering" wife for "coming to my rescue every day of my life." Beautiful.
