Aside from the Klingons the Borg are perhaps one of the most fearsome creations to come out of the Star Trek brain trust. A ruthless race of cybernetic boogeymen intent on assimilating anything and everything that stands in their way, they’re one of the highpoints of The Next Generation and take centre stage for the special effects laden First Contact. The film itself is something of a mixed bag, but it certainly opens on a high with a spectacular battle with an Earth bound Borg cube. Cue all manner of phaser and photon torpedo inspired fun alongside a cameo appearance from DS9’s Worf helmed Defiant.
