The most feared character in the series, the name Voldemort comes from the French words meaning 'fly from death'. Fitting, as the Lord's ultimate goal is to conquer and defeat death. In the second Harry Potter novel, the Chamber of Secrets, Rowling reveals that I am Lord Voldemort is actually an anagram of Tom Marvolo Riddle, his actual name.
