For all their outlaw credentials, the Stones did occasionally make concessions. One such incident occurred during their January 1967 performance of Let's Spend The Night Together on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Sullivan reportedly told Jagger personally "either the song goes or you do".

They eventually compromised on the lyric, with Jagger singing the altogether more wholesome "let's spend some time together"; although he made a point of sarcastically rolling his eyes as he did so.
