Keith discovers alternate tunings (1968)

Never one for flower power in the first place, the trials (literally) and tribulations of 1967 left Keith Richards "sick to death of the whole Maharishi guru s**t and the beads and bells".

A change of approach was required and Keith found it in alternate guitar tunings, originally shown to him by Ry Cooder.

Beginning with open-E and open-D in 1968, and settling largely on open-G with the bottom string removed by 1969, Keith invented a whole new style of rock guitar playing.

The first glorious fruit of this new discovery was released in May 1968...
