Andrew's contribution was more substantial than just PR. He recognised early on that original songwriting was the only way to ensure longevity (and decent money), and so, in Keith's words, "(he) locked me and Mick in a kitchen for a day and a night and said, 'You're not coming out until you've got a song.'"

Their early writing efforts tended towards ballads (As Tears Go By, originally a hit for Marianne Faithfull, being among the very first) but it wouldn't be too long before they came up with their first bona fide Stones classic...
