Project X, in which a group of teenagers organise a house party that spins wildly out of control, is the most pirated movie of 2012.

The teenage party favourite wasn't popular with critics, but it has the dubious honour of topping a list of the ten most illegally downloaded movies of the year.

It has been illegally downloaded over 8.7 million times this year - more than movies such as The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, which took ten times as much cash at the box office, according to the site torrentfreak.com.
