Ryan Gosling’s professional romance with his Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn (Pusher, Bronson) continues with Only God Forgives. Gosling stars as Julian, a young man who flees to Thailand after murdering a police officer. A decade later, Julian is managing a boxing club fronts a drugs business. Then Julian’s brother murders a prostitute and is in turn killed by the girl’s father, bringing down the wrath of Julian’s mother (Kristin Scott-Thomas), the head of a powerful criminal organization, who orders her remaining son to seek revenge for his brother. Judging by the poster of Gosling’s battered face, we’re expecting a typically brutal Winding Refn film.
