The Colbert Report (Comedy Central)
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central)
Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC)
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC)
Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)
Saturday Night Live (NBC)

Who should win: Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Who will win: Real Time with Bill Maher

Why: Despite having a fun category that includes words like “variety,” “music” and “comedy,” the voters genuinely stick to something highbrow…that’s to say that Fallon’s show isn’t highbrow, it’s just that Maher’s is on HBO. Our defense for Fallon’s show is that the host, team of writers and The Roots deserve some recognition for making the best out of that whole Leno/Conan ordeal a few years back and turned an originally panned-series into a hit. Fallon’s a nice guy who plays games with celebrities, parodies hit shows like Downton Abbey and Breaking Bad and manages to create viral hits with his celebrity friends. Let’s give these guys some recognition before they move up an hour earlier to the Tonight Show. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: Variety? Check. Music? Check. Comedy? Check. Emmy? We hope so.
