2013 Primetime Emmy Awards: Breaking Bad wins outstanding drama
The Primetime 2013 Emmy Awards produced a number of surprising results, but perhaps the least shocking was show-of-the-moment Breaking Bad winning Outstanding Drama over the likes of Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men.
Breaking Bad, the acclaimed series about a terminally ill chemistry teacher who cooks crystal meth to provide for his family after his death, deservedly picked up the top drama honour. However, many are still wondering how its star Bryan Cranston was beaten to Outstanding Actor (drama) by The Newsroom's Jeff Daniels.
And that wasn't the only stunning result of the evening; Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss, nominated for two Emmys, went home empty-handed, and in the comedy awards, Veep's Tony Hale triumphed over three actors from popular comedy Modern Family. That certainly wasn't in the script.
However, HBO's Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra not only won Outstanding Miniseries/Movie, it won Michael Douglas his first ever Emmy.
