Strength is the religion of the Spartan warriors portrayed in Zack Snyder’s stylized comic book film 300. So although King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) empathizes with the desire of deformed Spartan Ephialtes (Andrew Tiernan) to help his countrymen in their fight against the invading Persian forces, he turns down the hunchback, given that he cannot properly hold a shield. Angry at the rejection, Ephialtes goes to the Persians and is tempted by promises of wealth and pleasure to inform them of a goat path that will allow them to outflank his countrymen. Ephialtes agrees, and Leonidas and the rest of his men die.
