Pop star Justin Bieber’s troubles seem to be escalating by the day. In Toronto on Wednesday he was formally charged with assaulting a limousine driver last December. A few hours before that he had entered his plea in Miami, where he is accused of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired licence. This follows his arrest last Thursday in Miami for drunk driving; he had been drag racing in a residential neighbourhood. Bieber, who swore at the cops when he was pulled up, later admitted he’d been drinking, taking anti-depressants and smoked marijuana all day.

Justin Bieber’s misdemeanours aren’t going down well with the American public. A petition asking for his deportation from the US, now signed by 1,36,000 people – and thereby requiring an official response from the White House -- states: “We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”

The baby-faced singer who when he first arrived on the scene had announced, naively perhaps, that he didn’t think ‘You should have sex with anyone unless you love them,’ has been caught up in a string of controversies in recent times. These range from being spotted in upscale brothels to assaulting paparazzi and bar brawls.

Blame it on too much fame too soon, but Bieber’s life has certainly spun out of control and plunged into chaos. So, will the Beliebers keep their faith now?
