Lou Reed's life in pictures
Lou Reed has passed away at the age of 71, his agent has confirmed. The American rock icon died on Sunday October 27, and his death was first reported by Rolling Stone.
The Associated Press has quoted his literary agent saying he died of a "liver-related ailment". He underwent a liver transplant in May this year, but in June was rushed to hospital after returning to the stage, the cause being ‘severe dehydration’.
Reed was a true pioneer in his field and was best known as the guitarist, singer and lead songwriter of American rock band The Velvet Underground in the late 60s.
He then went on to enjoy a successful solo career with albums such as Transformer, Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal, Sally Can’t Dance and Metal Machine. His solo single hits include the likes of 'Perfect Day', 'Femme Fatale' and the unforgettable 'Walk on the Wild Side'. His influence to his peers, his fans and others in the music industry showed no limits during his long and vibrant career.
