A favourite plot device of filmmakers and storytellers, the MacGuffin is an interchangeable object often used to further the story and motivate our hero's actions. Like in the book-to-film adaptation, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, in which our half-angel, half-human warrior princess Clary Fray embarks on a quest to find the Mortal Cup. One of three divine instruments, this cup is blessed with magical properties that can turn humans into Shadowhunters, or likewise be used as a vessel for margaritas.
