Though hampered by layers of performance-restricting age make-up, in a stodgy biopic from director Clint Eastwood, DiCaprio still managed to shine as the psychologically complex J. Edgar.

Hoover that is, a crusader for progress and justice who, besides being a force for great good, also happened to be an ugly, egotistical, invasive monster with the people skills of Norman Bates. Without Leo in the role, selling the hell out of his character for scene after scene, the movie would have been unwatchable.
