Fighting fictional felons can be tiring work, especially if you have to do it singlehandedly across five films spanning more than 25 years. Perhaps that’s why for his latest outing Bruce Willis’ ageing action hero has recruited his son into the family business of killing bad guys, crawling through air vents and spouting ironic catchphrases at every opportunity.

So as two generations of McClane’s yippee-kay-ay their way across Moscow in A Good Day to Die Hard, we thought we’d look back through film history to pick out some of our favourite father son relationships in their honour.
