While working as a carpenter to support his wife and two young children, Ford became a stagehand for the rock band, The Doors. In this time he also built a sun deck for actress Sally Kellerman. Ford then was hired by director George Lucas to build cabinets at his home, this chance encounter between Lucas and Ford was a pivotal moment for Ford's waning acting career. In 1973, Lucas cast Ford in a key supporting role for his film 'American Graffiti'.
After a few small roles, Lucas hired Ford to read lines for actors auditioning for parts in his 'Star Wars'. Lucas was won over by Ford and cast him as Han Solo. Following the worldwide success of 'Star Wars', Ford was quickly established as a superstar and he went on to star in the sequels.
