'Becoming Jane' (2007)

In much the same way that Shakespeare in Love used the Bard's real life to tell a romantic story that inspired one of his plays, so does the Ireland-shot 'Becoming Jane' examine the life of Jane Austen and the scenarios that may have inspired her novel Pride and Prejudice. But don't go looking for historical fact, even though Hathaway, as Austen, apparently conducted much historical research in preparation for the role. Whatever misgivings Brits may have had about an American playing such an iconic English figure, the nation's critics apparently did not hold it against Hathaway, nominating her for British Independent Film Award for Best Actress.
