Hathaway's first Oscar nomination came playing Kym, a drug addict in rehab given a day pass to attend her sister Rachel's (Rosemarie DeWitt) wedding. Director Jonathan Demme uses a naturalistic approach to show us the many tensions going on amongst the family, including Rachel's resentment at having attention taken away from her by Kym and Kym's resentment at what she perceives as her father's mistrust which is actually simple concern. Hathaway was also nominated for several other awards for her performance, including a Golden Globe and a Toronto Film Critics Association Award.
