Early Career in Music

As a young girl, Amy Winehouse was encouraged by her grandmother to further her vocal education and attended numerous theatre schools over the years, including the famous Sylvia Young's in London. At the age of 13, she received her first guitar and began writing music a year later.

Winehouse explored a few endeavors before her big break in 2002. In 2000, she became the featured female vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Winehouse was signed to record label Island/Universal and was causing great excitement amongst some of the biggest producers in music. Winehouse's debut album Frank, was released on 20 October 2003.
