Marco Bellocchio's curious rumination on sex and political philosophy The Devil in the Flesh includes a brief but clearly memorable scene in which screen star Maruschka Detmers gets graphically intimate with co-star Federico Pitzalis, who is clearly, er, happy to be on the receiving end of her attentions. The Ontario Film Review Board demanded the scene be censored before the film could be screened for Toronto audiences; the festival organizers pushed back and, ultimately, won a de facto exemption for any film exhibited at the festival - which has come in handy more than once, we'd imagine, for the Midnight Madness program.
