Moonraker was Bassey's third Bond theme, but she almost wasn't involved in the film at all. Kate Bush and Frank Sinatra were among the big names considered for the song, before it was eventually offered to Johnny Mathis, who went on to withdraw from the project. This meant Bassey was left with little time to record her version, and she later admitted that she never regarded the song 'as her own'.
