Shirley Bassey's Welsh compatriot Tom Jones got the gig singing the Thunderball theme after early versions by Bassey herself and Dionne Warwick were rejected. Jones, the hottest male solo singer around back in 1965, was so keen to lay down the perfect recording that he passed out while singing the track's final high note.
