Emmys 2012: TV shows for TV snobs
'Boss'

This political drama about a Machiavellian Chicago mayor hiding a degenerative neurological disease is dark, intense and, at times, downright scary. 'Boss' is a modern Greek tragedy rife with betrayal, corruption and even murder. Nothing is sugarcoated and no one is safe. Mayor Kane even turned on his tortured daughter and pimped out his backstabbing wife to preserve his position. With a Golden Globe in his pocket, star Kelsey Grammer suggested the Emmys snubbed him due to his politics. His ugly divorce and tantrums seem a bigger issue than his Republican voting, but most likely, the voters just hadn't seen his powerful Starz series.
