The breakout season of this thriller about patriotism, terrorism and mental illness revolved around tormented CIA agent Carrie Mathison and the returned POW (Marine Sgt. Brody) she had the audacity to suspect was a traitor turned by al-Qaida -- and then sleep with! As leads were followed, players killed off and loyalties tested, Marine Sgt. Brody tried to find his footing at home. It was hard to determine where the truth lay until season's end, which saw a cover-up revealed, Carrie undergoing E.C.T. treatments just as she put it all together and Brody grappling with his allegiances to America, his family and terrorist Abu Nazir after a foiled suicide bombing. 'Homeland' nabbed 11 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama and nominations for leads Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.
