Whitney drowns, Hollywood parties

It was like a macabre chapter from Kenneth Anger’s Hollywood Babylon: On the eve of the Grammy Awards, drug-addled pop diva Whitney Houston accidentally drowns to death in a bathtub in the glitzy Beverly Hills hotel. Hours later, while the police are still poking around upstairs, her mentor Clive Davis convenes the biggest names in music in the same hotel for a party that soul singer Chaka Khan later called “complete insanity.”

“I don’t understand how that party went on,” Khan said in an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan.  “A more honest tribute, in my opinion, would have been, maybe, call everybody together, say a prayer, let's eat dinner, and go home.”
