Billie Joe Armstrong’s public meltdown

An annual round-up of scandals isn’t complete without the token public meltdown. Sadly, this year’s casualty is Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong, who went on an expletive-laced tirade during a performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September, smashed his guitar and promptly checked into rehab for alcohol abuse. The spectacle forced the cancellation of Green Day’s fall tour and it’s not known when the forced hiatus will end – Armstrong is expected to remain in rehab until next year.

“Obviously, the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern,” bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.”
