British director Steve McQueen, the man behind 2011 hit Shame, has directed Twelve Years a Slave, an adaption of Solomon Northup’s 1853 memoir of the same name. The film, featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch (pictured), follows Northup’s story after he was born free in New York before being captured and sold into slavery in the deep south of America.
