Elysium

Set in the year 2054, Elysium, director Neill Blomkamp’s long-awaited follow-up to his modern sci-fi classic District 9, stars Matt Damon as Max, a worker living in an overcrowded, poverty-stricken world where the very wealthy live on Elysium, a pristine space station orbiting the Earth. After being irradiated in an on-the-job accident that leaves him only five days to live, Max becomes determined to make it to Elysium where he may have a chance at survival. Blomkamp shot most of the film’s Earth scenes in Mexico and the Elysium scenes in Vancouver.
