Imprisoned Malik el Djebena finds himself in a jail divided into two factions - Corsicans and Muslims. Corsican leader Cesar Luciani orders Malik to murder Reyeb, a Muslim, and the job haunts him. Malik finds a Muslim friend in Ryad who teaches illiterate Malik how to read and write while the two strike up a close friendship.
