Hugh Grant's first role in a Richard Curtis film follows him as Charles the lone Englishman who becomes infatuated with a woman he repeatedly meets at weddings and even one funeral. The 1994 film premiered at Sundance and was met with a mixed reception - it was both a 'delightful' film and a 'forgettable' one - but it was a defining moment for Hugh Grant as the film accelerated him to BAFTA fame amongst other accolades.
