The latest movie version of British writer Susan Hill’s chilling ghost novel The Lady in Black provided the vehicle for Daniel Radcliffe’s first post-Harry Potter venture. He plays Arthur Kipps, a young widowed solicitor in 19th century London who is sent to settle Eel Marsh House, the allegedly haunted country estate of a deceased local. Arthur’s decision to spend the night at the isolated manor proves unwise as the female poltergeist said to haunt it makes her presence felt, creating all manner of ungodly racket and disturbances. Worse, the so-called “Woman in Black” is responsible for the deaths of several children in the local village, in vengeance for her own child’s death years earlier.
