Nightmare Castle (1965)

English actress Barbara Steele made her name as a horror heroine in the 1960s largely thanks to her casting in several low-budget Gothic horror films made in Italy. Mario Bava’s Black Sunday (1960) is the best known, but Mario Caiano’s Nightmare Castle (a.k.a. The Faceless Monster) has its merits. Steele stars as Muriel, the unfaithful wife of Stephen Arrowsmith (Paul Muller), a sadistic count. Muriel and her lover are tortured to death by Stephen, but both rise from the dead to seek vengeance after Stephen marries Muriel’s twin sister Jenny (also Steele) to get at her inheritance.
