Another J-horror remake, The Grudge Americanizes the 2000 Japanese film Ju-On. (Interestingly that film’s director, Takashi Shimizu, directs this version too.) Sarah Michelle Gellar (TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer) stars as Karen, an American exchange student living in Tokyo who earns credit as a care worker. She stumbles upon a curse whereby anyone who dies in a rage or in a fit of extreme sorrow will continue in death as a vengeful spirit and pass along the curse to their next victim. The main ghost in The Grudge is Kayoko (Takako Fuji), a young mother murdered by her husband upon him suspecting her of having an affair.
